CT Jazz Pianist, Orice Jenkins. Hello, He’s Only 15!
Orice Jenkins is only 15 years old but already plays like a master jazz musician. He was booked to play at the Goodspeed Musicals Gala, and play he did and got everybody’s attention including that of Academy Award, Golden Globe winning singer-songwriter, Paul Williams. Oh and big time singer-songwriter, Jimmy Webb was there too who also remarked on his playing. Orice Jenkins did himself proud. Here’s just a little snippet I shot of what he does.
This is Orice’s second year in a row at the gala, I heard him last year too. He tickles the ivories like no other, just effortlessly running his fingers up and down the piano barely looking at the keys, but at the crowd to figure out who his audience is. He is just amazing, and he’s kind and thoughtful and well, charming. He just plays mind you, there’s isn’t sheet music in front of him.
Here’s Orice’s MySpace page for more tunes.
Orice told me he’s headed up to jazz camp this summer up in Litchfield county, I can’t imagine what he has left to learn even at his young age. He’s just joyous when he plays. I keep saying it, but there is just so much talent in Connecticut, and Orice is among the best and he’s only a teenager.
If you’re smart, you’ll book Orice early and often, because pretty soon he’s going to be busy playing so many concert halls around the world you won’t be able to get him. Go get ‘em Orice!

CT Jazz Pianist, Orice Jenkins. Hello, He’s Only 15!
Orice is a very talented young man and have heard him play many, many times. Your article is right on the money.
I wish for Orice someday a huge grand piano of his very own where he can continue to WOW his audiences. He’s just a great guy.
I just love the idea that this is happening. It’s just in the blood. He will do well, and is doing great.
Orice is very talented indeed. But even jazz musicians working on their craft their whole lives still have things to learn from the music, their peers and other master jazz artists. I’m sure he’ll benefit greatly from the Litchfield Jazz Camp in Kent, CT this summer, including many performance opportunities including playing on a dedicated second stage at the Litchfield Jazz Festival’s 15th Anniversary August 6-8.
