Daniela Vlad~CT Fashion Designer

Daniela Vlad’s arrival to the United States from Romania would read like a novel, but suffice it to say that she landed here after incredible hard work and under incredibly difficult circumstances.

This thirty-six year old woman from Bucharest arrived in Connecticut in 2001 and in a very short time has gotten her name on the fashion map. She has already landed a spread in Women’s Wear Daily.

Daniela knows her way around a sewing machine. Her teenage years were spent going to school in her native Romania to learn about how to fix them. As a child she had no TV or internet, so  she would watch her Mom and Grand Mom sew.

After learning how to fix sewing machines, and not wanting to work in a factory, she decided to learn to sew and went on to study fashion after she came to Connecticut. This was difficult, because she did not understand English or nuances, but she persevered and she is on her way.

In 2008, after graduating from fashion school,  she opened up shop in New Britain in an old factory where there are many start-ups at the Connecticut Business Park.

Daniela is accompanies to work by her faithful dog, who loves to play when she has down time away from the sewing machine.

You can find Daniela’s creations on her web site at DanielaVlad.com and hopefully some day on TV’s Project Runway, a dream she has yet to realize.
